Sensor and actuator networks at the hospital and even in patient home will be new sources of incredibly useful data. Next challenges in this field will be to provide systems that fit well in existing medical information systems and, beyond technology, systems that are easily usable for medical staff.

At home, sensor and actuator networks could greatly increase quality of life for elderly and disabled who might otherwise require more caregivers or institutional care.
